ABOUT THE ARTIST

Phillip W. Strunk is a husband, father, Freemason, photographer, artist, and wildlife enthusiast. He has a deep love for nature and finds unprecedented beauty each and every time he ventures out with his camera.

Phillip has been an avid photographer since 2012. Most of his work centers around nature and wildlife but he has been honing his craft and has branched out to studio work creating unique and artistic images.

In addition to photography, Phillip has long been fascinated by painting and mixed media art forms and in 2018 created his first abstract painting. He is excited to explore all of the possibilities while creating new and exciting pieces.

When photographing animals Phillip's goal is to capture a glimpse into their lives as well as their personality. He feels so many creatures are so very misunderstood yet they are essential to the delicate balance of the ecosystems we live in. He simply states this by saying "I hope that my work helps people appreciate the complexity and fragility of all organisms."

With landscapes and plant life, he aims to take the viewer into the shot to experience the emotion of the scene. The wonder and awe, the serenity and stillness or even the dark and haunting. He states "Photographs capture a very specific moment in time and since time is always moving forward that moment will never be repeated but can be shared."

Phillip’s abstract paintings and mixed media pieces are composed of both order and chaos. He enjoys letting the material guide his hand and watching the work evolve.

"It is my sincere wish that you find as much joy in viewing my work as I felt while creating it." - Phillip W. Strunk

Philtered Studios was created for the purpose of displaying, sharing, and making available for purchase, Phillip’s creations. Philtered is a play on the word 'filtered' but also has its own meaning. A 'philter' is defined as a potion, charm, or drug supposed to cause the person taking it to fall in love, usually with some specific person. Therefore, 'philtered' is having been enchanted or bewitched with a philter.
